The Chain of Custody Certification was developed to assure the origin and legality of forest products produced by forestry-based industry. Chain of custody certification is a one-step backward assessment to verify whether the source of wood-based manufactured goods or other forest products has been ecolabel certified. If one previous node is not certified, tracking must be continued on the node before that and so forth until we get a continuing sequence of clarification that assure the product originates from a sustainable production forest.
